My favourite childhood toy

April 14, 2012

Em from A Mummy Too has asked us post photos of our favourite childhood toys, so here is mine. She is a teddy called Anne, about 15 cm tall, purchased with my own pocket money in 1978 when we were visiting relatives in Dunblane.

At one point in my early teens, this toy was almost given to a charity shop after my mum persuaded me I was too old for teddies. Fortunately, my sister Lucy put the teddy to one side until I came to my senses.

I used to take Anne everywhere with me, until I was at university and accidentally left her in France and then decided she was better off staying at home. I once made her a little gathered skirt, but that is long since lost. I might make her another one.

I love your teddy! I still have mine from childhood too, he sits on my bed. I recently gave a pile of my old toys to my daughter, including my Tiny Tears who I was given when my brother was born – so is now 32 years old!

Thanks! You should post a photo of your teddy and link up!
I didn’t get a Tiny Tears, despite begging and pleading. My parents were kind of anti branded stuff (and not particularly well-off). But I kind of see their point of view a bit more now.

I love these simple traditional teddies – my favourite toy from childhood is quite similar.

What a lovely little teddy. Anne has real character. Good on your sister for putting her aside.

Yes it just goes to show that sometimes it is worth keeping hold of toy, even after you are supposed to be ‘too old’ for such things.
