Listography – 5 reasons I know I’m a…mummy

March 22, 2012

The Listography theme on Kate Takes 5 this week is 5 reasons I know I’m a….

It just so happens that I had already started to draft a post about things that are different about me now that I’m a parent. So I present to you 5 reasons I know I’m a mummy

1. I answer to the name of ‘Mummy’ or ‘Aled’s Mummy’

How weird is that? And I don’t even object. In fact I’m happy to be known as ‘Aled’s Mummy’, because I think my son is a lovely little boy that any mother would be proud to have.

2. When I go to TK Maxx I head straight for the toys instead of the handbags

I do love a nice bit of Playmobil! And most of our ‘Thomas and Friends Take and Play’ stuff came from TK Maxx too. I still look at the handbags, but it is definitely the toy section where I spend the most time and money these days.

3. I still bear the physical scars of pregnancy and childbirth

When Aled noticed the scar on my tummy I explained that it was there because the doctors had needed to make a hole in my tummy to pull him out. He asked, “Did I get stuck Mummy?” So I said, “Yes you got stuck. But the doctors pulled you out, nice and safe, and I was very glad they did.”

4. If I manage to sleep until 7am I feel like I’ve had a lie-in

People told me that sleepness nights were part of being a new parent. What I didn’t realise was that I would completely lose the knack of sleeping soundly. If my son wakes up (or even if he just cries out, without waking up), I am instantly awake too. Apparently this is a common side-effect of motherhood.

5. I don’t know how I did without baby wipes

They are so incredibly useful!
