Trying out the new caravan

Caravan in Blackmore Caravan Club Site, showing Malvern Hills in the distance

We finally got to take ‘Aled’s caravan‘ out on a proper trip at the weekend, when we went to the lovely Blackmore Caravan Club Site in the Malverns.

Everything in the new Elddis Xplore 304 caravan worked really well, including:

  • the large fridge and small freezer compartment were filled with food before we set off and kept everything at the right temperature, even ice lollies in the freezer
  • the fridge/freezer was absolutely silent, so much so that we wondered at first whether it was actually working
  • the caravan was straightforward to set-up on site, especially when compared with our old folding caravan
  • I managed to set Aled up with his little dvd player and his little folding chair (see photo below) and this kept him entertained while we set the van up or did any cooking

The perfect spot for a toddler to watch dvds

  • we remembered to take an assortment of his favorite dvds, books and toys and fitted these in a low-level cupboard
  • the beds were comfy, big enough for us, and easy and quick to assemble for the night and convert back into seating for the day
  • our sleeping bag was lovely, but Aled preferred to use his unzipped as a duvet on top of him
  • the oven, hob, hot water and blown-air heating all worked smoothly
  • the inside of van stayed warm and cosy, even when the outside temperature dropped in the early hours of the morning
  • and it was easy to cool the van down during the day using the roof lights
  • there was more than enough storage space for a weekend away (and probably also for a week away, but we haven’t actually tested this yet)

So we were very pleased and are now looking forward to our next trip.

Looking forward to hearing about your trips. I know the caravan has three gas rings but I wish one had been electric so we can make use of electric hook ups. I’m thinking of buying a separate portable induction hob. We are going to use our 304 for the first time in a month or two so getting excited now!

We use a Remoska electric cooker in our caravan (available here: http://www.lakeland.co.uk/2511/Standard-Remoska-Electric-Cooker )

I’m intending to write a blogpost about this soon

Let me know how you get on with your 304 🙂
