Thrifty Thursday – two supermarket bargains
As part of the Suddenly Madame Glamour giveaway, I am asking people to tell me about their favourite supermarket bargains.
There have already been some great suggestions, so I decided to try a couple of them out for myself.
Kavey from Kavey Eats said,
I’d say my favourite supermarket bargain is the Tesco Baylis & Harding range in mandarin and grapefruit scent, which is just like my favourite Molton Brown scent, naranji.
Well I love the Naran Ji scent, so I bought three mandarin and grapefruit products from the Baylis & Harding range to see if I liked them. The hand wash, shower gel and bath foam were £2 each for 500ml, which is considerably cheaper than Molton Brown prices (£16 for 300ml of Naran Ji hand wash).
When I got the bottles home, I took the lids off and sniffed. The scent is lovely. Reminiscent of Naran Ji but slightly lighter. I’ve been using the hand wash and the shower gel for the last couple of days and they are both lovely. Not as thick and luxurious as Molton Brown products, but still very pleasant to use.
While I was in Tesco checking out the bath products, I also decided to investigate the Tesco own-brand chocolate range. This is because Jennifer of Jennifer’s Little World had said,
I’ve found that the Tesco value chocolate is pretty good, and very cheap!
Because I love dark chocolate the thing that caught my eye was the Tesco Finest Fair Trade Organic 70% Plain Chocolate – it’s fairtrade and organic and at £1.39 for 100g much cheaper than the 70% chocolate from other premium brands (which are often priced at over £2 for a 100g bar). Having eaten two bars in the last few days I can also vouch for the fact that the chocolate tastes absolutely gorgeous, rich and intense and sweet. So this is now my dark chocolate bar of choice.
Thank you Kavey and Jennifer for your tips!

Glad you like them! Yes, not quite as thick as the MB ones, though a nice texture and the scent is close, I think. I found a tiny bottle of MB Naranji from a hotel pack recently, and it was thicker, which was actually awkward in terms of getting a suitable amount out of the bottle easily, but was very nice.
I would never have thought of trying this range if you hadn’t suggested it, so thanks for the tip!
Glad that you liked it! I will have to try the Baylis and Harding bits too, they look really nice!
I would never have checked out the yummy chocolate in Tesco if it hadn’t been for you so thanks for that. The Baylis & Harding things smell really nice too
Love this idea for a post. You should make it a regular feature :0)
